Balancing Marathon Runners and Sprinters

Most organizations are looking for marathon runners. These people are great long-term contributors who remain loyal to the organization for years.

The problem with marathons is that they can become boring. They are monotonous.

Most true achievers struggle with monotony.

To be effective, true achievers embrace the practice of both marathoners and sprinters. Yes, they are committed for the long-term, but they remain interested by running multiple sprints along the way.

They take on new projects, tackle new challenges, and strive to move a key metric every quarter.

Challenge your people. Change things up. Give them finish lines to cross throughout their careers.

    I truely apppreciate the long term working people. Fortunately they never get highlighted during their carrier. What is your opinion?

      I believe that many people are solid citizens in organizations. They come to work, do good work, and make solid contributions. Although not tapped as shooting stars, they also aren’t the problem people on the other side of the spectrum. All too often, solid citizens are overlooked to the detriment of an organization.
