Picture this: Your organization has been struggling with the same frustrating issue for years. Sometimes, it fades away, but it always comes back, draining time, energy, and resources.
Now imagine that you offer a bold suggestion the next time the problem comes up. Your idea is different, and it makes people pause. They discuss it, agree it could work, and decide to act on it.
Six months later, that problem is a thing of the past. The organization is in a much better place, and people are looking at you in a new way. You’re the problem solver—the person who made all the difference.
I’ve heard imagine called the most powerful word in the English language. John Lennon used it to title one of his most iconic songs. Walt Disney said, “Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, dreams are forever.” Even Nelson Mandela stressed its importance: “Those who can’t imagine change reveal the deficits of their imaginations, not the difficulty of change.”
So, how can you use imagination to spark change? Start by asking questions like:
That single word can shift your mindset, spark new ideas, and unlock possibilities you hadn’t considered. It’s simple but incredibly powerful.
Put the word imagine into your daily conversations, and you might fachieveresults you never thought possible. Disruption begins with the courage to dream of something better.
A few years ago, I started imagining what it would take to harness the powerful force of disruption to achieve extraordinary results.
Change tends to move slowly—but disruption? It comes at you fast.
With the support of Vanderbilt University, I launched a project to explore this idea. My research team and I studied thousands of people and I had the opportunity to interview 350 positive disruptors in depth.
Along the way, I partnered with James Patterson to write Disrupt Everything: Every Leader, Team Member, and Family Needs to Disrupt. Grow. Change. Triumph.
Disrupt Everything explore how, in the face of disruption, to create breakthroughs in your life, your team, your family, and your organization. The book is now available for preorder.
But you don’t have to wait until September to bring these ideas to your team!
Our publisher has made a limited number of advance copies available exclusively for speaking engagement. (Yep, your team can get a James Patterson book eight months before it hits shelves.)
Last week, I traveled to Philadelphia to speak to an audience. I just received an email from the event organization with this feedback:
Patrick was a huge hit with our entire distribution organization. He gave us an excellent framework for thinking about and managing disruptive change. Patrick’s stories brought to life the Disruptive Loop and how to think about applying it in business and life. Thank you so much for joining us at our national sales meeting!
If you’d like to learn more, get your hands on the limited books available, or bring these ideas to your team or organization, contact my speaking manager, Michele Lucia.
Make it a great day!
Patrick
